What are Microplastics?

  • Microplastics are small pieces of plastic that exist as smaller pieces from larger sources. Some usual sources of microplastics include plastic grocery bags, plastic baby bottles, tea bags, To-Go containers, and more. The prominence of microplastics from any given source is increased significantly if the source is heated.

How are we exposed to microplastics?

  • They’re either ingested, or, in a lot of cases just breathing can expose you to microplastics. They enter the body through the bloodstream and can be obtained from eating and drinking many things.

What can happen once we ingest Microplastics?

  • There’s been some potential correlation between these particles and diseases and tumors. Modern science is still working on specifics as this issue is relatively new. *

How do we avoid Microplastics?

  • If you are using plastic containers make sure to avoid heating the plastics. Be more conscious about cutting boards, water bottles, baby bottles and anything else usually made of plastic. Try to look for glass or stainless steel alternatives to your usual plastic items.

How is TCP different?

  • TCP used HDPE plastic which is thicker and does not shed microplastics to the extent that other plastics used in cold chain shipping do. Our products are reusable and do not come in direct contact with food, limiting microplastic exposure in multiple steps.  Our HDPE is food-approved and our PCMs are non-toxic regardless of the fact they are in a hard HDPE container.
